Serena withdraws from Nike Exhibition

More unfortunate news for Serena Williams and her fans, though not exactly surprising.  Hoping to compete in the "Nike Clash of Champions," which will take place in Eugene, Oregon on March 8th, Serena has been forced to withdraw due to her continued foot recovery.  Serena was scheduled to face-off against Maria Sharapova (another player sponsored by Nike), but instead Victoria Azarenka will take Serena's place.  Roger Federer is also scheduled to face Rafael Nadal.

Serena's withdraw has already began to stir up controversy and hateful comments, many questioning the truth behind Serena's injury.  The truth is that the foot injury is not something Serena and her doctors are taking lightly.  Serena has made it very clear to her fans (particularly on her Twitter account) that she is missing tennis and is anxious to get back on the court, but she and her sister have always been adamant about their health and longevity to the sport; Serena will return when her foot is fully healed, and no sooner than that.  I'm not sure if Serena misses tennis more, or if her fans do, but we all are missing her.  The tour needs Serena that's for sure!  Get well soon!

By the way, Serena will still be participating in the Nike Clash event.  Although she can't play, she will be at the exhibition festival, and for some fun she will be the referee during the mixed doubles event.
