Serena Williams defeated Maria Kirilenko in her 2nd round match today in three sets--6:2, 3:6, 6:2, setting up a quarterfinal match against Maria Sharapova.

Serena leads Sharapova in head-to-head meetings 6 to 2, winning their last four matches.  Despite the head-to-head, the rivaly between these two is evident, and there is always buzz and excitement envolved with their matches. Both players love the spotlight, and both are fierce competitors.

“If I say I just want to play well, it’s a lie,” Serena said. “Would I be happy about losing? When I’m playing I get a little psycho and on the edge.”
